Install the app (PWA)
Add JOGL Network to your phone or desktop for an app-like experience.
JOGL Network is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You don't need an app store — you can install it straight from your browser and it runs in its own window, like a native app, with support for push notifications.
On Android / Chrome
When you use JOGL Network on a mobile browser, a slim banner appears across the top of the screen, with the JOGL Network icon and Faster access, full screen. Tap Install and confirm. The page moves down below it, so it covers nothing.
You can also start it yourself: choose Get the app in the profile menu (on a phone, tap your photo at the bottom of the menu to open it). The entry only appears while the app can be installed on that device.
If you dismiss the banner, an Installation reminder lets you choose I'll do it later (it comes back after a few days) or Never again. The banner also stays out of the way while you are setting up your account, checking your profile, or importing contacts or members, and comes back on a later page.
On the search page, Jojo asks this itself, once it has nothing more pressing to say: Install where the browser can install the app (a desktop Chromium browser included), or Show me how on an iPhone or iPad. From the moment Jojo appears, the banner holds back until you next open or reload the app. Later on Jojo's question puts the banner off as I'll do it later does, and after a second Later on a device Jojo stops asking there, until you choose Bring them back in Settings → Jojo. With Jojo turned off, or Let Jojo point out what's waiting on me off, the banner shows as before.
On iPhone / iPad (Safari)
iOS installs PWAs through the Share sheet:
- Tap the Share icon in Safari.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add in the top-right corner.
The in-app banner's Install button walks you through these steps. On iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 and later), push notifications only work in the app added this way: open JOGL from the Home Screen and turn them on there.
On desktop
In a desktop Chromium browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave), an install icon appears in the address bar. Click it to install JOGL Network as a desktop app. If your browser doesn't open its install window when you choose Jojo's Install, it says so: use the install entry in your browser's own menu.
Updates
The app checks for new versions in the background. When an update is ready, a New version available card appears in the sidebar (on a phone, in the menu, with a dot on the menu button). Tap Click here to update when it suits you: while you're working the choice is yours, and an update is not applied out from under an active session. Once the app has updated, it tells you All up to date!
There is one exception, and it only ever fires when you come back to a backgrounded tab — never while you are using one. On that return the app applies a pending update by itself if the tab had been in the background for 8 hours or more, or if the update had been waiting for 24 hours. So you come back to an already-updated tab rather than a stale one holding an unread prompt; a tab you leave open and visible keeps the prompt until you act on it.
The installed app is the same product as the website, just in its own window. You may need to sign in once inside it (iPhone and iPad keep an installed app apart from Safari); after that, everything (search, messages, events) works the same.
