Search

Search is the heart of JOGL Network. You describe who you're looking for in plain language and it ranks members by how well they match — using semantic search over profiles, publications, and professional backgrounds, not just keywords. Each search is a chat: you can refine, ask follow-up questions, and come back to it later from the sidebar.

Jojo

A new search opens on a page hosted by Jojo, the little giant. Jojo stands on the search box and says one thing at a time about what is waiting for you, with a button that takes you to it: a setup to finish, your event on a day you attend it, community invitations, having no community yet, the last week of your free trial, meeting and connection requests, news from JOGL, unread messages, and requests to join the selected community when you run it. For news from JOGL, Jojo says what the message is about, such as credits added to your balance or a meeting request declined, and its button opens the message. Later quiets Jojo for the rest of your visit, and with nothing to point out, Jojo asks whom to find for you in a small bubble that names what the search covers. When searches across all your communities are paused for lack of credits, Jojo says that first, on a coral poster with no Later (see the callout below).

For a few days around Halloween (24 October to 1 November) and Christmas (12 December to 2 January), Jojo dresses up wherever it appears in the app: a witch's hat, then Santa's. On the search page the sun behind it becomes a moon among twinkling stars at Halloween, with bats flying past when the page opens and when you click Jojo, and snow keeps falling at Christmas. If your device asks for reduced motion, the stars stay still and no bats or snow are drawn. Jojo's question opens with the season's wishes.

Settings → Jojo, under Preferences, has four switches for Jojo, kept on your account so they hold on all your devices: Show Jojo on my search page (turned off, the page goes back to its plain look), Let Jojo point out what's waiting on me (turned off, Jojo only helps you get started and says when searches are paused), Keep Jojo small (Jojo only peeks from behind the search box, with a short note), and Seasonal outfits (turned off, Jojo keeps its everyday look all year once you are signed in).

Once you have finished setting up, Jojo shows a six-slide welcome tour over your search page once, on your next visit. The first time you open many other pages, Jojo shows a first-steps card about the page, with Got it and Show me around, a short walk-through of the page. The same Settings → Jojo page lets you Replay the welcome tour and bring back the cards you closed (Show them again). See Jojo.

Search modes

In the search composer you can pick a mode:

Auto — let JOGL Network decide whether a fast or deep search fits your query. This is the default.
Fast Search — a single-pass expert search that returns a ranked list of members.
Deep Search — a thorough, two-turn search (see below). When Auto picks Deep Search, the composer shows Deep Search (awaiting confirmation) until you confirm the plan.

The mode menu says what each mode does and the price, in credits, that Fast Search and Deep Search start from.

Deep Search

Deep Search is interactive and runs in two turns:

You enter your query. JOGL Network analyzes it and proposes a Deep Search Plan — a set of search lanes (sub-needs) it will search for. You can check or uncheck each one.
Optionally toggle Suggest team composition on the plan card to have it propose groups of complementary people rather than a flat list.
Search N topics, where N counts the lanes you kept, and it runs the plan and returns grouped results. Before you confirm, the card shows what the run will cost, and what a web lookup or a team suggestion adds if one is made. Nothing more is charged until you confirm. With team composition on, you also get Suggested Teams showing what each team covers and its gaps; you can save a team, copy it as markdown, or download it as CSV.

This is the right mode when you're assembling a team or exploring a broad, multi-part need.

Scoping your search

Community — the header picker selects one community or All my network. Its Shared networks tab lists the networks your connections share with you; choosing one searches that network alone (see Network sharing).
Event — when the selected community has an event, the composer lets you search the whole community or only that event's participants (see Event mode). The scope is fixed for the rest of that chat.
Project — file the search under one of your projects, or create a new one from the composer.

A search across all your communities (a global search) is paid from your own credit balance, or your organization's. A search inside a single community may be covered by that community, but it is not guaranteed: cover applies only when standing funding reaches you as a member of the organization that owns it, or as that community's owner or one of its admins while none of that organization's delegation rules applies, or when a delegation budget with capacity left matches, set either by that organization or, for a community its owner pays for with their own credits, by that owner (see Billing). Otherwise the search falls back to your own balance. A search whose payer has too few credits does not run: the app says Not enough credits and offers Top up credits (or See plans if you have no plan) when the credits are yours, View billing & buy credits when they belong to an organization you manage or when the app cannot tell whether you have a plan (while it reads your plan, or, for a global search, when you have none of your own but belong to an organization), and no button when they are someone else's. For a global search you are told before you type. On a new search Jojo says it, on a coral poster marked Searches paused; when Jojo is off or kept small, the composer says Global search needs credits instead, and in an open conversation it says New searches are paused. The buttons depend on your case: Top up credits or See plans on the same terms as above, or Billing settings when an organization's wallet would pay or the app cannot tell whether you have a plan; Find my best deal when your own wallet would pay; Change wallet, to switch to another of your wallets, only if you belong to an organization; and, in a new chat only, Search in a community, or Find a community if you are in none. When your own wallet would pay, you belong to no organization, and some of your communities pay for your searches inside them, a new chat's warning says that a search across all your network needs your own credits, and puts a Search in button for each of those communities ahead of the others, up to three, with a menu that lists the rest; a read-only community is not offered. Search in a community then goes, since it would also list communities where you pay. Either way, the warning goes by the wallet the search would actually bill, which is not the same as your own balance: an organization wallet with credits lets the search through even when yours is empty, and an organization wallet you picked yourself can stop it even when yours is not.

Voice input

Anywhere you can type a search, you can also dictate it. Tap the microphone button and speak; your speech is transcribed in real time. You can pick your microphone and cancel a recording in progress.

Working with results

A result normally carries a relevance score and a short explanation of why it matched, so you can judge the results, not just trust them. Only matches scoring 65 % or more are listed. A result with no score at all, such as one in an older conversation, is listed too, since the threshold hides weak matches, not unknown ones. When every match is below 65 %, the answer says how many profiles the search found and suggests describing who you are looking for in other words. From a result card you can:

Connect — send a connection request (see My Network).
Contact — see the contact details the person shares with you, and start a message when the result is a member who has joined and whose messaging settings allow you to write to them. An account that isn't verified yet can only start a conversation with people in its own communities and its connections, even when their settings accept messages from anyone (see My Network). Results that are profiles JOGL Network holds but nobody has claimed show contact details only.
Save to project — bookmark the profile into a project.

Filters

JOGL Network reads filters from your question, such as a place, an organization, a seniority or one of the community's own fields. An answer lists the ones it used under Filters used: Only keeps just the people who match, and Prefer leaves out no one for not matching but moves the people who match up the ranking. When too few people match an Only filter, the search can use it as a preference instead, and the filter's tooltip says so. To change them, remove a filter with × or switch it between Only and Prefer (a filter on one of the community's own fields always stays Only, so you can only remove it), then choose Search again with these filters; filters you keep that way are applied as you set them. This is not offered on a Deep Search.

A place in your question means the area around it: a city or a metro area covers everyone within 50 km of it, and a region or a country everyone in it, going by where each profile sits on the map. A place bigger than a country, such as Europe, the EU, DACH, the Nordics, Southeast Asia, Latin America or the Middle East, covers everyone whose location is in one of its countries, even when only the country is known. For any other place, a profile whose location has not been placed on the map is matched on the place's name instead, and so is every profile when the place itself cannot be found on the map.

In the app, most Fast and Auto searches can also stop before they run and show Filters to check before searching: when a filter was not plain from your question (each one says why), or when the filters would leave fewer than three people. Change the filters the same way, then choose Search with these filters or Search without filters. A Deep Search, a search of an event's participants, a search for someone by name and a follow-up question never stop for this.

You can appear in your own results, since your profile is part of the community you search. To leave yourself out, turn off Show me in my own search results in Settings → Account. It only changes your own searches: other members still find you, and a search for you by name still finds you. A search of an event's participants leaves you out of its results, though a search there that names you can still find you.
