Private notes

Private notes let you jot down personal notes about other members — like a CRM for your own network. A note is private to you: no one else, including the person you wrote it about, can see it, unless you let an AI assistant of yours read it (see below).

Writing a note

From a member's profile, open Private note and write free-text notes about them. You can add multiple notes over time; they're shown newest-first, and you can edit or delete any note from its … menu. Notes can be up to 10,000 characters each.

You can keep notes on anyone in the network, including people whose profiles haven't been claimed yet.

Settings → Network notes lists all your notes, grouped by person, with Open profile and Delete all notes about this person.

Notes as context (asked at your first note)

The first time you save a note, JOGL Network asks whether to use your notes as context, with Use my notes or Don't use them. Your note is saved with your answer; closing the question saves nothing yet. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Network notes, under Notes as context, with the Use my notes as context switch. Until you answer, it counts as off, and a note an AI assistant of yours adds (below) does not answer it.

With it on, JOGL Network can read your notes and suggest structured facts (expertise, follow-ups, and so on) that you approve. Turning it on sends nothing by itself: a note's text goes to our AI provider only when you ask for suggestions on that note with Suggest facts. The switch also decides whether search may use your notes: while it is off, search reads none of them. With it off, your notes are only kept for you to read.

With it on, Suggest facts on a note proposes facts, and you Approve or Reject each one. An approved fact carries Use in search and Use in match reasons switches, and facts in a sensitive category are labelled Sensitive. A Sensitive suggestion stays until you reject it, even when a later Suggest facts no longer proposes it. Today no search or match reads approved facts yet, so they don't change your results.

Sensitive categories of information are never used to influence search or recommendations, even with notes as context on.

Notes and your AI assistant

You can let an AI assistant you connect to JOGL (through the MCP server or an API key) read your notes and add new ones as you. Nothing can until you allow it: a connected app gets this only when you approve it on a consent screen that lists your private notes (or, for an older app, on its card, below), and a key only when you tick notes:read or notes:write when you create it. An app you connected before this was added cannot read your notes, and connecting it again may not change that. Its card under Settings → API/MCP → Connected apps then offers Add new permissions, which lists what the app would gain, worded as on the consent screen, and adds it once you approve (adding notes only while write is on for that app); the app sees it the next time it lists its tools, usually in a new conversation. The assistant itself may offer you a link that opens that window, but only your own approval there adds anything. Revoking its access there and connecting it again also works.

An assistant reads only your notes on people you can see in JOGL. A note in which AI structuring marked a detail Sensitive is never given to it, even after you reject that suggestion or edit the note. A note you never ran Suggest facts on is given as you wrote it, since JOGL cannot tell what it holds, and so is a detail you add to any other note after its last Suggest facts. What the assistant reads goes to that assistant and its provider. A note it adds is an ordinary note: it appears here, you can edit or delete it, and no AI structuring runs on it. Assistants cannot add notes while your account's Write access (Settings → API/MCP) is off.

When you ask it to, an assistant can also record your answer to whether to use your notes as context, or change it. Turning it off needs only the permission to add notes; turning it on also needs the permission to change your own settings, which a connected app gets on a consent screen that lists it (or on its card, while write is on for that app) and a key when you tick settings:write. Either change needs your account's Write access on. That switch decides what JOGL's search and AI do with your notes, not what the assistant reads: an assistant allowed to read your notes reads them either way.

When you delete

• Deleting a note also deletes any facts extracted from it.
• Deleting your account purges all of your private notes and preferences.
• If the profile a note is about is deleted, your notes about that person are deleted with it.
• Your data export includes your private notes, extracted facts, and preferences.
